The key environmental challenges addressed by the project are the conservation of biodiversity in the agricultural man-made environment; to be more specific. the conservation of dry grasslands.
The problem of biodiversity in the agricultural land has been fought for decades. Slovenia, as a European country with incredibly rich biodiversity, has a particularly important role and responsibility in the EU. The extensive grasslands are among the most threatened habitats both on the European and national scale.
Threats to conservation of dry grasslands addressed by the project:
- Abandonment of use / overgrowth,
- Intensive use,
- Eutrophication,
- Fragmentation of the ownership of the land,
- Deterioration of meadow orchards,
- Erosion,
- Tourism: activities of people in the natural environment and construction of ski slopes.
